Smith & Vansant Architects in White River Junction, Vermont, designed this warm and cozy family lake house. Everything about it, inside and out, pushes all of our buttons for what a lake house should be. The best photos of this house are closer to the end of this post, so be sure to scroll all the way down!
It looks like this house has been there forever, doesn’t it? Look at all those windows looking out over the water!
We always enjoy flat-cut balusters – they’re so much more interesting and fun than turned balusters, and they’re almost required in a classic family lake house. The beaded board wainscot with a natural finish is a perfect fit, too.
Here’s a larger photo of the stair. The color scheme here hearkens back to the early 20th century, when houses like this were first built on lake properties all across America.
This is one of the nicest built-in home office nooks we’ve seen!
A perfect family area – we’d be tempted to waste the day away lounging on the window seat.
Can’t imagine a more wonderful family room than this – check out the details of that stone fireplace! Look closely, you’ll see a one-piece stone hearth. The best part might be the doors opening to the porch! Those views!
The kitchen has all the character you could want! Lots of glass, lovely warrm wood floors, board ceiling, Shaker cabinets…
This is what a family lake house is all about, right?
