This new home near Los Angeles looks like a modern interpretation of the California Mission style, with soft-cornered stucco walls and exposed beam-ends on the outside. Brandon Architects in Costa Mesa designed this great modern mission home, and have quite a few more in their portfolio.
From the street, this home feels warm and inviting. The low-walled courtyard out front looks like a great place for a glass of wine on a warm California evening!
Inside – looking out onto the courtyard, you really get a sense of how the inside and outside flow together…something the southern Californian climate encourages. We love the blue doors, the ceiling beams, and polished concrete floors.
For just second, I thought that black stone backsplash was a flat screen TV! Which would be weird. The polished concrete floors and ceiling beams from the living room carry through to the kitchen. The oversized cabinet pulls caught our attention!
Exposed brick, steel balustrades, and modern light fixtures give the stairwell a bit of an industrial modern feel.
Ah, California! Where else could you have a furnished outdoor covered terrace on the second floor? Now we can’t decide – wine in the courtyard, or wine on the terrace? Can’t we have both?
I suppose every day in this modern mission home ends with a beautiful California sunset. Where do we sign up?
