When you’re in the lowcounty you might find yourself in Beaufort, North Carolina or maybe Beaufort, South Carolina. Either way, it’s good to know that the one in North Carolina is pronounced “BOH-fort” and the one in South Carolina, where this quaint low country cottage sits, is pronounced “be-YOO-fort”.
The real estate listing for this home says it was built in 1875 and has since been extensively renovated and added to, bringing the size up to 2,450 square feet.
RICH: For me, the best parts of this home are the outside spaces. I know the lowcounty has a hot, humid climate – but at least you can go outside in the winter if you want to!
KAREN: The chili-red countertop adds a nice pop of color to the kitchen – and ties nicely to the front porch rockers!
RICH: Wood everywhere in here! On the floor, on the ceiling, and if you look carefully, on the wall behind the sink.
KAREN: I like a kitchen that’s more open to the dining room. I probably would have given up the upper cabinets.
RICH: Me too – maybe replace the cabinet space with a nice, big, walk in pantry?
KAREN: This looks cozy, with a nice eclectic style.
KAREN: you could surely find a lovely zen moment out here!
RICH: I don’t know what a zen moment is, but this looks like a comfortable place to have it! 😉
RICH: I’m going to guess that the owners of this quaint low country cottage travel a lot, since there are some very unique pieces out here on the porch. I like that this isn’t a nice, shiny, brand new porch – there’s something about the “age” of the old paint, the “character marks” in the wood, the slightly out of kilter shutters, that appeal to me.
KAREN: there’s a lot to like in this simple bedroom – the light, airy feel of the bed frame, the “attic” ceiling beams, the distressed furniture, and the board doors. Feels like a vacation cabin or a lake home.
RICH: kind of a classic vintage bath with all the right fittings – even the hex tile floor is period-correct (whatever this period is!).
KAREN: The landscape and outdoor living spaces only add to the charm of this quaint home!
RICH: Looks like a great place to be right now, since we’re posting this right before Christmas, up here in cold, overcast Ohio!
