From the mix of materials to capturing great views, the design team got every detail just right on this rustic Craftsman cabin home in the mountains of western North Carolina. ACM Design’s Architects and Interior Designers combined Japanese design sensibilities with Pennsylvania farmhouse details to create a very special family home.
Between the garage and house, a peek of the mountains beyond hints at the rustic cottage’s spectacular setting.
A massive stone fireplace anchors the main living space – it’s a great contrast to the many windows surrounding it and opening to the views outside.
Just inside the entry, the stairwell opens to the lower level – the gentle curve of the balustrade and the big windows above let you know this stair leads to something more than just a basement.
Another stone fireplace on the lower level of this Craftsman cabin is the centerpiece for this living area, which opens out to a small patio and yard. The details of the outside of this home are perfectly suited to its mountain setting!
Back inside, the kitchen opens to the living room, and mixes rustic and modern elements – we love how the rough-hewn flooring echoes the texture of the ceiling beams, and how light pours in from the dormer windows above. We wonder how you’d ever get any dishes done with that fantastic view in front of you!
Speaking of dishes, the kitchen cabinets are filled with them – so all the food is stored in this adjacent pantry!
Bedrooms and baths keep the theme of “slightly modern”, with touches of rustic details. The sconce lights, set on bits of slate and wrapped with trim, tie the mirrors together into one sculptural unit.
Another grand stone fireplace backs up to the one in the living room, anchoring the screened porch. This is the room we’d spend the most time in!
Whats the floorplan look like?
Can you please share the exterior paint color scheme? Thanks
